On October 12, as equipotential workers left the field safely at No. 411 tower in Baishan Town, Lujiang County in Anhui Province of the Huainan-Shanghai UHV AC Transmission Demonstration Project, it symbolized the success of the world's first live work on 1,000kV UHV AC line with double circuits on same towers.
The difficulty and innovation of this task was the steel pipe tower structure, which was quite different from the previous angle steel in work surface, practice, stress point and key point. The live work was to replace the insulators in the upper area of the line with the height of 98 meters, requiring highly collaboration of the work in tower, on line and on ground. During the process, three sets of rope systems and auxiliary ropes with a total length of over 1,000 meters and 192 tools in 48 categories were used.
Anhui Transmission & Transformation Construction Company sent all tools to China Electric Power Research Institute for experiments to exclude any hidden troubles in this live work, and asked technical staff to formulate the work program. Then it invited experts inside and outside the province and from operating units to review the program for five times and also carried out simulation work in an under-construction 1000kV UHV line twice to make sure that the final program was optimal, tools were qualified and operation was most efficient.
Huainan-Shanghai UHV AC Project was the world's first of its kind with double circuits on same towers, starting from 1,000kV Huainan Station and ending at 1,000kV Liantang Station. The total length was 660 kilometers, passing through Anhui, Zhejiang and Shanghai. It was officially put into operation on September 25, 2013.
On October 12, workers in insulated clothing were doing live work on the tower.
Maintenance workers were doing the preparation work.
Maintenance workers were climbing the tower to carry out the work.
