Volkswagen Group of America has issued a voluntary recall on 62,155 Tiguan vehicles of certain model year 2009-2011, because of the problem with the fuse for the exterior lights.
Due to this, the holder for the fuse that controls the vehicle's exterior lights circuit may melt, which may result in a partial loss of exterior lighting.
Reduced vehicle illumination diminishes the vehicle's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
These vehicles were manufactured from July 2007 through June 2011. Dealers of the luxury carmaker will replace the fuse, free of charge.
Volkswagen will notify owners of the affected vehicles. The recall is expected to begin in December 2013.
Besides this, the Chinese Government has ordered Volkswagen to recall over 207,000 Tiguan sport-utility vehicles over defective lights in November 2013.
China's quality watchdog General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said that there could possibly be a defect in the fuses lights in the SUVs, which is likely to lead to accidents.
The German automaker issued recall on 189,770 Tiguan SUVs made in China and 18,008 others imported. They were produced or imported between May 2009 and November 2011.
