Bentley Plans to Invest About GBP800m at Its Crewe Plant in The UK for The SUV Production

British luxury car maker Bentley Motors, a subsidiary of Volkswagen, is planning to invest about GBP800m through 2016 at its Crewe Plant in the UK for the production of new sport utility vehicle (SUV) and other models.

The new SUV, which represents the Bentley's fourth model line joining the Mulsanne, is claimed to be the most luxurious and powerful model of its kind in the market.

The UK Prime Minister David Cameron said the GBP800m investment and creation of 1,000 new jobs from Bentley strengthen the country's economy.

"One sector that we know is sprinting ahead in the global race is our booming automotive industry," Cameron said.

"One vehicle rolls off a production line somewhere in the UK every 20 seconds and we have just launched the government's automotive industrial strategy to help continue this success for years to come.

According to the British carmaker, the new SUV may feature plug-in hybrid technology that incorporates a rechargeable battery, in addition to a fuel tank, which would offer improved fuel efficiency.

Expected to go on sale in 2016, the new SUV would assist Volkswagen to almost double the sales of Bentley models to 15,000 units by 2018.

The new model would be targeted at emerging markets including China, Russia and the Middle-East, which highly contribute to the company's growth.
