Honda Insight Prototype to Make World Debut at Detroit Auto Show

Honda is taking new approach with Insight Prototype, which will be debuted at 2018 North American International auto show in Detroit on 15 January 2018.

The company stated that its new Insight sedan will be above the Civic in its passenger car lineup.

The new sedan, which is due to be launched next summer, will be powered by latest generation of Honda’s two-motor full hybrid powertrain.

American Honda Motor automobile sales senior vice president and Honda Division general manager Henio Arcangeli, Jr. said: “With its sophisticated styling, dynamic stance, ample interior space and best-in-class performance, the all-new Insight embodies Honda’s approach to creating electrified vehicles without the typical tradeoffs.

“You won’t have to be an electrification advocate to appreciate the new Insight – it’s a great car in its own right, independent of what’s happening under the hood.”

The first generation Insight was introduced back in 1999 and it is claimed to have been the first hybrid vehicle in America. The vehicle had a fuel-efficiency of 70 miles per gallon and it was the first vehicle to have an Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid system.

The second-generation Insight was debuted in 2009 as one of the most affordable hybrids in the market. The 5-door, 5-passenger sedan offered an increased space and utility while it continued to use the IMA hybrid system.

Arcangeli stated that the new Insight’s introduction is part of the company’s initiative announced at this year’s North American International Auto Show to have two-thirds of the company’s vehicles electrified by 2030.

Honda also stated that the new Insight will be manufactured at its Greensburg, Indiana plant, alongside Civic and CR-V using domestic and globally sourced parts – will join the Clarity series (Clarity Fuel Cell, Clarity Electric and Clarity Plug-in Hybrid) and the all-new 2018 Accord Hybrid, arriving at dealerships nationwide early next year.
