POSCO Wants to Find Salt Lake to Produce Lithium at Low Cost

Korean steel giant Posco is visiting Chile and Argentina in a bid to find salt lake to produce lithium at low cost.

President and CTO of Posco, Ohjoon Kwon said that the company is flying to Argentina and Chile to talk about the energy project with other players.

In the background, Posco develops a new chemical lithium extraction technology that reduces recovery time from around 12 months to eight hours at plant in Northern Chile.

One of the players that Posco is interested in presenting this technology to is Chile's state copper producer Codelco, which is moving forward with plans to develop its own lithium holdings, also in the Maricunga district.
