Spanish Exports of Wedding Wear in 2013, Registering a Rise of 13 Percent

Spanish exports of bridalwear, groomwear and accessories (wedding wear) totaled €716.3 million in 2013, registering a rise of 13 percent, compared to 2012, as per the data released by the Center for Information on Textiles and Clothing (CITYC) of Spain, reports modaes.es.

According to the CITYC data, exports of the sub-segment of wedding dresses and accessories for brides amounted to €501.4 million during last year, also recording a surge of 13 percent year-on-year, whereas, exports of wedding wear for boys and girls (bridesmaids’ dresses and best man suits) totaled €214.9 million, during last year.

The Spanish autonomous community of Catalonia was the highest exporter of wedding outfits during last year, with exports totaling €298.4 million, accounting for 41.6 percent of the overall wedding wear exported during 2013 from the country.

The main destinations for exports of Spanish wedding outfits were France, Italy, Germany, Morocco and Portugal, accounting for 45.5 percent of the overall wedding wear exported from the country during last year.

Meanwhile, as per the CITYC data, Spain imported wedding wear and accessories worth €658 million during last year, showing an increase of 9 percent, compared to 2012.

China was the main supplier of wedding wear and accessories to Spain during last year, accounting for 26.9 percent of the overall wedding wear and accessories imported by the country in 2013. Other countries supplying wedding outfits to Spain during last year included Morocco, Italy, India and Turkey.
