Breakfast cereal manufacturer Uncle Tobys has launched a new product in its Plus breakfast cereals range, ‘Plus Iron’.
The Company says the new ‘Plus Iron’ would fall into the existing Plus Breakfast range and would have a health star rating of 4.5. This would give Uncle Tobys a total of 44 cereals with four or more star Health Stars under the Government’s Health Star Rating system for foods. The Health Stars Rating system shows a calculation of the ‘healthiness’ rating of an food product based on the number of stars, with more stars for healthier food choice.
“There can be a lot of confusion in the supermarket aisle that makes it hard to identify better food choices at a glance,” said Geraldine Georgeou, a leading Australian dietitian. “Uncle Tobys 4+ Star range makes it easier than ever for Australians to choose a healthy breakfast each morning providing the nutrients needed to get through busy days,” she said.
Uncle Tobys says getting enough iron can be difficult for women.
The new Plus Iron blends corn and wheat flakes with vanilla puffs, cashews and nut clusters, which Uncle Tobys claims provides “25 per cent of the recommended daily iron intake, important to maintain energy levels and brain function”. The Plus Iron breakfast cereal also contains “protein, carbohydrates, and fibre as well as vitamins and minerals including iron, and Vitamins B1 and B2 to manage energy levels throughout the day”.
The Plus range already includes Antioxidants, Fibre, Calcium, Omega 3, Protein, and Muesli Flakes. It is available from major supermarkets.
