McCall Farms Close Some Operations to Consolidate Its Operations in Order to Cut Costs

American canned and frozen vegetables producer McCall Farms is planning to close its yam processing plant in Wilson, a move that will slash 64 jobs.

The operations from the Wilson plant will be transferred to the company's other plant in Effingham, South Carolina.

The company is also ceasing yam processing operations at New Iberia plant in Los Angeles.

McCall Farms had acquired both the plants 12 months ago which produce canned yams under the Bruce's Yams brand.

The closure is in line with the company's strategy to consolidate its operations in order to cut costs.

The employees effected by the closure are being offered jobs in South Carolina.

Mccall Farms provides butter peas, triple succotash, cut okra, collard greens, butter beans, cabbage, southern peaches, tomatoes, diced rutabagas, and boiled peanuts. Its products are sold under various brands including Glory, Margaret Holmes and Peanut Patch.
