US based automobile manufacturer Terrafugia is planning to build a vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) plug-in hybrid-electric flying car, the TF-X.
The TF-X will be equipped with electric motors and custom-made rotors and will be powered by the turbine engine in the forward flight.
Terrafugia CEO/CTO Carl Dietrich said this is the right time for the company to start thinking about its future beyond Transition development.
"We are passionate about continuing to lead the creation of a flying car industry and are dedicating resources to lay the foundations for our vision of personal transportation," Dietrich said.
With the launch of vehicles, which include the Transition and TF-X, the company aims to address congestion and other transportation challenges that are being faced across the globe.
Terrafugia plans to implement intelligent systems, fly by wire controls, and available technology in the TF-X in order to increase the level of safety, simplicity, and convenience of personal aviation.
