Mitsubishi Motors Admits to Improper Conduct in Fuel Consumption Tests

Mitsubishi Motors has admitted to improper conduct in fuel consumption testing for over 600,000 vehicles sold in Japan.

The applicable cars are four mini-car models, two of which are the eK Wagon and eK Space which have been manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors.

The other two are the Dayz and Dayz Roox which have been manufactured by MMC and supplied to Nissan Motors since June 2013.

Until March 2016, about 157,000 units of eK Wagon and eK Space were sold and 468,000 units of Dayz and Dayz Roox were supplied to Nissan Motors.

Mitsubishi Motors has decided to halt production and sales of the applicable cars. Nissan Motors has also stopped sales of the applicable cars

In its internal investigation, Mitsubishi found that the applied testing method was different from the one required by Japanese law to other models manufactured for the country's domestic market.

Mitsubishi said: "Taking into account the seriousness of these issues, we will also conduct an investigation into products manufactured for overseas markets."

The company plans to establish a committee consisting of only external experts in order to carry out an investigation into the issues objectively and thoroughly.
