UK-based sugar products manufacturer Ragus has opened a new plant at Slough Trading Estate, Berkshire, which will produce specialist sugars.
The company noted that the facility is equipped with advanced equipment for efficient drying, sieving, screening, blending and bagging of sugar.
It will also allow the company to substantially reduce power and water usage compared to the previous site, thus enabling it to achieve its commitment to reduce carbon emissions year-on-year.
Ragus Sugars director Ben Eastick said that the company sources sustainably grown crops from across the world to manufacture specialist sugars used in products from medicines to cakes, cereals.
"With the new factory we've volume on tap to help brewers, soft drinks manufacturers, bakers and pharmaceutical companies adjust to a potential lack of availability of sugars (especially a shortage of white sugar)," Eastick said.
The raw materials for the production of specialist sugars are sourced from certified suppliers - cane sugar from African, Caribbean and Pacific countries and beet sugar from within the European Union, the company added.
Ragus, an importer and manufacturer of sugar products in the UK, also refines and produces a range of sugars and syrups including ethical sugars and syrups for food, baking, pharmaceutical and brewing industries.
