Viterra to Build New Grain Facility in Saskatchewan, Canada

Viterra, a grain and oilseeds marketer and handler, has announced that it will build a new high throughput grain terminal at Wadena in Canadian province Saskatchewan.

The new grain facility is planned to have a storage capacity of 34,000 metric tonnes. Through a loop track, the facility will be able to load up to 156 railcars.

The company plans to break ground on the new facility this fall and complete it in the fall of 2018.

Viterra North America president and CEO Kyle Jeworski said: “We've worked closely with farmers in Wadena and surrounding areas for many years, and we're excited to be renewing our commitment to them through a new, world class grain facility that will meet their needs in today's competitive operating environment.

"By revitalizing our presence there, we will provide customers with convenient access to the superior service, marketing opportunities and advice that makes us an industry leader."

In June this year, Viterra had opened grain terminals at Grimshaw in Alberta province followed up by Kindersley in Saskatchewan.

The Grimshaw facility has grain storage of 30,000 tonnes and 104 railcar loading capacity. On the other hand, the Kindersley has grain storage of 28,000 tonnes and 108 railcar-loading capacity.

Viterra was acquired at a cost of C$6.1bn ($4.6bn) by Switzerland-based Glencore two years ago. It has become a part of the company’s agricultural business segment since then.

With headquarters in Regina, Saskatchewan, Viterra distributes and transport grains and oilseeds while partnering with farmers to market and move their crops globally wherever there is demand for them.
