General Motors has recalled 8,208 units of the Chevrolet Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans in North America over an issue with the front brake assembly.
All the recalled vehicles belong to the 2014 model year and may have reduced braking performance due to defective rear brake rotors installed in the front brake assembly.
The defective parts reportedly have the potential to shorten lifespan of the front brake pad and increase the risk of a crash.
GM said in a statement, "The condition could significantly shorten front brake pad life and reduce brake system performance, increasing the risk of a crash."
According to reports, about 1,700 of the cars are with the customers, while the remaining are with dealers.
There have been no reports of crashes or injuries related to the problem. The company noted that it expects only a small number of the recalled vehicles to have the wrong parts.
Of the total affected vehicles 8,208 were sold in the US, 209 in Canada and 173 in Mexico.
