GM Has Started Operations at Bekasi Manufacturing Facility in Indonesia.

US based automobile manufacturer General Motors (GM) has started operations at its Bekasi manufacturing facility in Indonesia.

The automotive manufacturer has invested $150m in the 58,000sqm facility, which has a production capacity of 40,000 vehicles per year.

GM International Operations president Tim Lee said the company had reported a 17% increase in the last year compared to 2011.

"Indonesia is one of General Motors' fastest growing markets and we are big believers in build where we sell and source where we build," Lee added.

The company manufactures the sub-compact, seven-seat multi purpose vehicle (MPV), the Chevrolet Spin at the plant, along with its three engine variants including the 1.2L, 1.5L, and 1.3L diesel engine.

Unveiled in September 2012 at the Indonesia International Motor Show, the vehicle features bluetooth connection unit, double-blower air conditioning system and a third row.

The vehicle comes with Dual VVTi technology engine that is paired to a six-speed automatic transmission with tiptronic technology, a digital speedometer display and multi- information display.
