Belgian-Brazilian brewing company Anheuser-Busch InBev has partnered with Syngenta for the sourcing of quality malting barley, which is used in brewing beer.
Through the partnership, growers will have access to Syngenta malting barley varieties, and they will be trained and advised on agronomy and sustainable farming practices.
Syngenta chief operating officer John Atkin said: "Growers will be able to consistently achieve higher yields of top-quality malting barley, which will increase their incomes and help Anheuser-Busch InBev meet growing demand for its products."
The quality grain yielded will be supplied to Anheuser-Busch, in order to meet the increasing standards for beer production.
Anheuser-Busch InBev chief procurement officer Tony Milikin said" "We wish to keep barley relevant and interesting for growers by helping them develop their business in a qualitative, sustainable and profitable way."
The phase I of the partnership will take place in Argentina and will involve 160 growers and cover 14,000 hectares.
Anheuser-Busch invests in the development of improved varieties while providing growers with access to quality seeds, advanced technology and expert advice from skilled agronomists.
