DSM Gains Validation for Delvotest T Testing Tool to Detect Antibiotic Residues in Dairy Products

Dutch-based life sciences company DSM Food Specialties has gained validation for its testing tool Delvotest T, which helps detect up to 27 antobiotic residues in raw milk and dairy ingredients such as milk powders.

A report published by Taylor & Francis evaluated the test's ability to discover multiple antibody residues. The validation was conducted by two independent facilities in Europe and Asia in line with the European Community Reference Laboratories (CRL) guidelines.

Delvotest T identifies a broad range of antibiotics at EU MRLs, with high sensitivity for tetracyclines. The validation report studied Delvotest T against five parameters including the screening target concentration (STC) detection capability, false-positive (FP) and false-negative (FN) rates, robustness and cross-reactivity.

The findings of the study stated: "This multi-residue test was easy to use (no specialised analyst required), cost effective (no sample preparation), fast in terms of result delivery (3hrs 15mins) and robust since incubation temperature change and delay of reading did not impact the final result."

DSM Food Specialties business line manager food & crop protection Ingrid Damen said: "The presence of antibiotic residues in raw milk pose a significant risk to consumer health, including allergic reactions and antibiotic resistance. It is therefore vital that farmers, dairies and milk control laboratories take specific measures to determine the quality and safety of their milk. Delvotest T is a proven tool to help identify the antibiotic residues in cow's milk, and we welcome the results of this new validation study."

Last November, Swiss agribusiness company Syngenta and DSM entered into strategic alliance to develop microbial-based agricultural solutions such as bio-controls, bio-pesticides and bio-stimulants and plan to commercialize these innovations through their joint discovery platform.

Through this partnership, the companies intend to deliver a broad range of products that are derived from naturally occurring micro-organisms for pre- and post-harvest application across the globe. These organisms can protect the crops from pests and diseases by helping them combat resistance, encourage plant productivity and fertility
