German automaker BMW Group is set to commence the production of its hybrid sports car, i8, at the assembly line in Leipzig, Germany from April 2014.
The automaker has unveiled the new hybrid sports car in 2013. With a top speed of 250 km/h, the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds.
The i8 is equipped with a 1.5L three-cylinder I3 turbo engine, which is capable of producing 228 HP and 320 Nm of torque.
It also features an electric engine, which can produce 129 HP and 250 Nm of torque. Both the engines can produce a total output of 357 HP and 570 Nm of torque through a 6-speed automatic transmission.
BMW will roll out the new hybrid sports car in June 2014.
Earlier in February 2014, the German automaker also announced that it will produce its new MINI Hatch in the Netherlands from summer 2014.
