Rail technology provider Bombardier Transportation has introduced the new Primove e-mobility system for the bus sector at the ongoing UITP World Congress in Geneva, Switzerland.
The system allows the electric-bus to be inductively charged with the Primove wireless charging system that includes Primove batteries and the Primove propulsion and control system that is claimed to enhance energy efficiency for road vehicles.
According to the company, the new Primove battery system weighs 50% less and can be charged three times faster compared to the current batteries.
Primarily, the company had developed the Primove system of wireless e-mobility for the tram operation based on which the new technology was developed for the electric buses.
Development of the new technology follows the company's aim to drive the expected increase in the market for e-buses in the upcoming ten years.
The company expects the electric bus market to represent 10% of the city bus market growing at 10,000 electric buses per annum by 2020.
