Auto parts manufacturer Johnson Controls will offer its Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) advanced battery technology to power vehicles made in China.
Chery Jaguar Land Rover will use the battery technology in its Start-Stop vehicles.
The company expects start-stop vehicles with its AGM batteries to reduce CO2 emissions by 12.6 million tons and save over 1.2 billion gallons of fuel worldwide during the next five years.
Johnson Controls Power Solutions China Original Equipment vice president and general manager Deborah Roberts said the company is providing energy storage systems to help its automotive customers meet increasingly stringent fuel economy and emissions standards.
"Our advanced battery AGM technology can help consumers save five to eight percent in their vehicle fuel costs every year as well as helping them reduce their CO2 emissions," Roberts added.
According to Johnson Controls, the global Start-Stop market for new vehicles, powered by AGM batteries, is expected to reach 35 million per year by 2017.
The company is planning to invest $520m worldwide to increase production of batteries in the US, Europe and China in order to support the growth.
