Arla Foods Ingredients has introduced Nutrilac LowCal, a yogurt-based solution that makes it easy for dairy firms to tap into the weight management category.
Nutrilac LowCal comes in two variants - with whey protein and with whey protein & prebiotic fiber.
Claimed to be rich in whey protein, they offer 36 calories per 100g of product, thereby qualifying for a 'low in calories' label claim.
Weight management is considered to be the second fastest-growing health trend in the food and beverage market worldover. In the US, 70% of all men aged over 20 are categorised as overweight or obese.
Whey protein and prebiotic fibre not only offer great taste, excellent nutrition but also high levels of satiety.
Arla Foods Ingredients marketing and business development manager Kasia Kandulski Lindegaard said: "Scientific evidence shows that protein and fibre are proven to increase feelings of fullness, which is a key part of any successful weight management programme. By incorporating both into a healthy yoghurt, dairy companies can create snacks and meal replacement options that consumers will enjoy integrating into their diets."
Arla Foods Ingredients will display both Nutrilac LowCal solutions at the forthcoming Food Ingredients Europe 2015 exhibition in Paris.
Earlier this month, Arla Foods Ingredients announced that it has developed a natural milk protein-based solution to address complaints about dry, crumbly gluten-free bakery products.
Nutrilac protein for gluten-free bakery products offers taste and texture. It is claimed to be 100% gluten-free and simulates the protein structure and functionality of wheat gluten, resulting in bread and cakes with soft and elastic crumb.
