ContiTech, a subsidiary of German automotive supplier Continental, has opened a new research and development (R&D) center in China with investments of about EUR8m.
The center located at Changshu in Jiangsu Province will develop products for vehicle mounting and vibration control technology.
Establishment of the center follows an order from automotive manufacturer Qoros, which was secured by the ContiTech's Vibration Control business unit in 2010 that included development of the central platform for assembly of Qoros first production model.
ContiTech Vibration Control business unit head Kai Uwe Fruhauf said that the company made clear decision to carry out development in the regions where the major global automakers are active including Europe, North and South America, and Asia.
"Comprehensive service and custom-made solutions are important criteria helping ContiTech Vibration Control continue to grow with its customers in China and elsewhere," Fruhauf added.
The Changshu center will develop the technology in close with customers including Geely, Great Wall Motor, General Motors, Shanghai Volkswagen and Qoros.
With the center, the company plans to offer services to markets including China, Korea, Japan, and India.
