India’s Amul dairy brand maker Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) has partnered with Ahmedabad-based e-commerce solution provider firm to sell its products through an online portal and mobile app.
Amul, the country’s largest dairy brand, will launch its exclusive e-commerce platform over the next two months, The Economic Times reported.
GCMMF managing director RS Sodhi was quoted by the publication as saying: "With consumer preference shifting to e-commerce, our objective is also to sell our products online. Customers will now have the option to purchase our products through e-commerce portal as well as mobile app.
“All Amul products including fresh milk, curd, butter, cheese etc. will be sold through our exclusive e-commerce platform and delivered to our customers' door steps.”
A senior official of the dairy co-operative said that the Amul will test online sales initially in Ahmedabad and expand the services to other cities later.
The official said: "We plan to start the service from Ahmedabad within the next two months.”
The firm already sells Amul products through some online retailers.
The official added: “We supply our products directly to few e-tailers and online grocers. All our B2B business is online. However, for B2C, there will be exclusive platforms of Amul for on-demand purchase of our products.”
Amul has a vast network of 10,000 dealers and 10 lakh retailers, including franchise retailers.
A decision to sell its products online by GCMMF is seen as a step towards reaching its target of Rs 30,000 crores sales revenue by 2017-18.
Infibeam said in a statement: “The company has executed an agreement with GCMMF to provide online ecommerce and mobile platform with integrated logistics framework for on-demand customer purchase of Amul Products.”
