The Soup Boy is recalling Carrot Soup as it may have been contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
The recalled product is 1L The Soup Boy Carrot Soup, which was distributed to retail locations across New Brunswick.
The recall, which has been classified as Class 1 health hazard, was initiated after receiving a consumer complaint.
CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. It will notify the public through updated food recall warnings, if other high-risk products are recalled.
Consumption of the products contaminated with Clostridium botulinum may cause nausea, vomiting, fatigue, dizziness, blurred or double vision, dry mouth, respiratory failure and paralysis. In severe cases of illness, people may die.
However, no illnesses have been reported associated with the consumption of the recalled product.
Figures released by the Government of Canada show that over four million cases of foodborne illness are found in Canada every year.
