Recently, "5.12" Wenchuan earthquake reconstruction landmark---Wenchuan Earthquake Memorial Hall (see photo) is officially opened. As the sole memorial wall decoration steel supplier, Baosteel has accomplished the production and supply missions. "5.12" Wenchuan Earthquake Memorial Hall is an important part of "spiritual home" rebuilding in State Council "Wenchuan earthquake restoration and reconstruction main plan". It is a national earthquake memorial project and the fourth batch of national patriotism education bases named by CPC Propaganda Department, carrying five functions: remembering, exhibition, publicizing, education and research. Memorial Hall occupies 142000 square meters, with 14000 square meters of construction area. The main building is called "crack", meaning "framing the moment of disaster on earth and leaving eternal memory for posterity." To restore the traumatic scenes when "5.12" large earthquake occurs and to give warning to people, Earthquake Memorial Hall outside wall adopts the powerful dark red rust steel plates, i.e., high strength corrosion and weather resistant steel plates, which demonstrate the building walls at the time when earth was torn apart. They again blend with the vegetation on the roof, signifying new life and hope.
