US based automobile manufacturer Chrysler will recall about 840,000 vehicles across the globe over various issues.
The recall affects 500,000 cars and sports utility vehicles (SUV) over a problem with active-restraint head rest, in addition to about 282,000 minivans over the air bag malfunctioning.
Chrysler said that the potentially faulty microcontrollers were installed in a supplied component.
"They entered the supply chain after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan caused a worldwide microcontroller shortage," the company said.
About 442,000 vehicles of the overall recall belong to the US, while 25,000 units in Canada, 10,000 vehicles in Mexico and 12,000 outside North America.
According to the documents filed with NHTSA, the faulty micro computer components used in the head rests were produced by the TRW Automotive.
