US-based company Xan Confections is voluntarily recalling 13 of its gourmet peanut butter chocolate products over salmonella contamination.
The voluntary recall was issued upon learning that Sunland, supplier of the peanut butter used in the production of the company's confections, has recalled its entire peanut butter product from 1 May 2012 through 24 September 2012.
Xan Confections CEO Susan Johnson remarked that upon learning of Sunland's voluntary recall of peanut butter products that the company uses, they have immediately notified the customers.
No illnesses have been reported till date and customers who have purchased the product have been informed to discard any unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to Xan Confections for a full refund.
Consumption of food contaminated with Salmonella can cause Salmonellosis. Salmonella infections can be life-threatening, especially to those with weak immune systems. The most common manifestations of Salmonellosis are diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within eight to 72 hours. Additional symptoms may be chills, headache, nausea and vomiting that can last up to seven days.
