Dutch start-up firm Aestech has developed a self-heating pack for semi-liquid baby foods.
The pack features milk powder dispenser, water and a baby nipple. It also incorporates self heating packaging and convenient on-the-go packaging.
Compared to the existing self-heating packaging, primarily metal beverage cans with pre-mixed coffee or tea, the new packaging has a separate dispenser that carries milk powder, while the heating-element is located at the bottom of the chamber.
The dispensing chamber features activation button and is sealed with a foil. The compartment between the dispensing chamber and the heating-element holds the water to be heated.
The aluminum heating-element stands on small columns to ensure it is fully surrounded by the water to be heated. It is filled with calcium oxide that undergoes exothermal reaction with water to become calcium hydroxide that heats up the element.
The water required for the exothermal reaction is placed in the tube, which runs through the heating element to the activating button on the packaging. On pushing the button, heat is transferred to the powder and water mix.
