Chinese automaker Build Your Dreams (BYD) has delivered three new battery electric transit buses to the Taiwan-based MiaoLi Motor Transportation for local use.
The delivery is part of the several battery electric transit buses ordered to offer services on the streets of Taiwan.
BYD has supplied the standard 12m (40ft) transit vehicles, which are currently the only long-range battery electric transit buses available, to offer shuttle services in Taiwan.
Taiwan MiaoLi Motor Transport President Huang Yunxi said the company chose these long-range transit buses to combat rising fuel costs as well as to protect the region's environment.
"They will surely be a success on the streets and on our balance sheets," Yunxi added.
BYD electric bus, which is claimed to offer quiet and comfortable ride, offers a transit range of over 250km (155mile) on a single charge.
BYD Asia Pacific general manager Liu Xueliang said, "This historic first delivery to Taiwan symbolizes a unified goal for a cleaner tomorrow on both sides of The Taiwan Strait is hopefully the first of many to come."
