ABP Food Has Sold Its Silvercrest Facility to Kepak for an Undisclosed Amount

Ireland-based ABP Food has sold its Silvercrest facility at Ballybay Co Monaghan to Kepak for an undisclosed amount, as part of its strategic decision to exit from the frozen burger sector in the country.

The sale involves the transfer of the 122 staff currently employed at Silvercrest plant.

ABP Food chief executive officer Paul Finnerty said the decision to sell the facility is the right one for both the wider group and also for the 122 employees at the Co. Monaghan site who transfer as part of the deal.

"Our decision to sell the Ballybay facility allows the Group to move forward positively with our core chilled beef business and other developing businesses," Finnerty added.

The company confirms that its chilled business has been unaffected by the horsemeat issue and sales of its chilled beef products have remained unaffected. ABP Food will continue to invest in expanding and developing this and the other businesses.

ABP Food employs 8,000 people in 36 facilities in eight countries, of which 2,500 are employed in Ireland.

Kepak is a food processing firm with nine manufacturing facilities located across Ireland and the UK. The company processes over 300,000 cattle, 1.5 million lambs and 25,000 tons of consumer foods per annum.
