Potato Processor Lamb Weston/Meijer Opens New Production Facility in Netherlands

Potato processing firm Lamb Weston/Meijer has opened a new €120m production plant in the Netherlands.

Apart from the new line, the company renovated the entire production location including the existing production line.

The company said the investment will enable it to process potatoes in a sustainable way and meet increasing demand for existing and new frozen potato products from customers across the world.

The new production line includes cutting, optical sorting, frying, freezing and utility functions, consistent with the company's goals for sustainability and creating shared value.

The new location at Bergen op Zoom is being hailed as an ideal location not only in terms of supply and processing but also for distributing frozen potato products such as Twisters, Crisscuts and fries, made by the company. The plant’s expansion has also created about 60 new job opportunities

Lamb Weston/Meijer CEO Bas Alblas said: “The Joint Venture with Belaya Dacha in June and this new production line in Bergen op Zoom reflect to our ambition to meet the growing demand of high quality potato products in a sustainable way.”

Recently, Lamb Weston/Meijer formed a joint venture with Belaya Dacha to build a plant in Lipetsk in Russia to cater to the Russian French fry market.
