Food processor Michael Foods has commenced work on a $33m expansion at its Wakefield, Nebraska, farm and processing plant.
The two-phase project includes expansion of the facilities and installation of new equipment.
In the first phase, the company will increase footage at the plant by about 75,000ft2 in production, refrigerated space, finished goods space and egg storage areas and install two new food production lines.
Second phase includes renovation of spaces and relocation of two food production lines. The company will also prepare the site for a potential building addition in the future.
The expansion would not create any new jobs, the company said, adding that the project will help it increase its overall production capacity, while allowing it to generate additional revenues.
Michael Foods plant manager Joe Clevenger said, "This investment will address existing needs for additional space, expand our production capacities at the Wakefield location, provide enhanced service for our customers, and position the plant for future growth."
The company markets and distributes food products to the retail, foodservice and food ingredient markets. It primarily provides specialty egg products, refrigerated potato products, cheese and other dairy products.
