US tyre maker Goodyear is planning to close a plant in northern France after negotiations with the workers failed.
The manufactures tires for agricultural machinery and for cars at the facility and has been losing about $82.96m per year for last five years.
Goodyear chairman Henry Dumortier said that the company is fully aware of the impact of the announcement and the plan's heavy consequences for staff, their families and local communities.
"We are deeply disappointed that five years of negotiations were not enough to reach a compromise with representatives of workers at Amiens Nord.
"Today's announcement was the only option left to us," Dumortier added.
The company's decision would effect 1,173 workers employed at the plant.
