Volvo has commenced production of XC60 crossover at its Chengdu facility in China, expanding its production capacity in the country.
The expansion of production line at the Chengdu facility has created 500 new manufacturing jobs at the facility.
The plant has an annual production capacity of 120,000 cars, and prior to the production of XC60 crossover, the plant produced Volvo S60L long wheel base sedan in 2013.
Volvo Car China CEO Lars Danielson: "The Chengdu plant is absolutely on a par with our European plants.
"Whether it is in terms of quality, installed technology and equipment, working environment and safety or environmental performance, our plant in Chengdu matches Volvo Cars' global standards and requirements."
Apart from the Chengdu facility the company has a plant in Daqing, northeast China where Volvo XC Classic is being built for the Chinese market, and it also has an engine plant in Zhangjiakou which supplies engines to Chengdu and Daqing.
