American agribusiness company Cargill plans to establish a canola processing facility in Alberta province, Canada.
The construction of the facility, which is subject to regulatory approvals, is expected to be completed in time for the 2014-15 canola harvest. The new facility is likely to create 50 new job opportunities.
The plant is expected to process 850,000 metric tons of canola annually and would help Alberta canola farmers by providing a consistent and competitive point of delivery.
Cargill Canadian canola processing business commercial manager Ken Stone said the facility would process both conventional as well as specialty canola seeds and enable the company to substantially boost its contracting programs in the region.
"This is our second major Canadian investment in canola crushing, and demonstrates our confidence in the continued growth and competitiveness of the canola industry in this country," Stone said.
Currently, Cargill operates 21 locations in the province and has about 2,700 employees.
