American Honda Motor and Zipcar have entered into an agreement under which the automaker will become a preferred vehicle manufacturer for Zipcar.
As per the deal, the automaker will add a couple of hybrid and electric-vehicles to Zipcar's car-sharing service, which will give Zipcar members access to Honda's advanced, lowest emission vehicles.
Starting next year, the automaker will provide its CR-V crossover sport utility vehicle, the Insight hybrid, a battery-powered Fit EV and a plug-in hybrid electric version of the Accord to select Zipcar locations.
Zipcar chairman and CEO Scott Griffith said, "This win-win partnership with Honda adds to Zipcar's array of smart and sustainable transportation options and by introducing Zipsters to Honda's newest hybrid and electric vehicles we can help increase overall awareness of these exciting new technologies."
American Honda vice president of the environmental business development office Steven Center said the company provides the most comprehensive lineup of vehicles that offer improved fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and enhanced vehicle and pedestrian safety, while producing a consistently high level of product quality and value.
"As the car sharing market leader, Zipcar is the best choice for us to showcase our newest energy-efficient transportation technologies, given the strength of their brand, their tech-savvy, conscious and connected members and the geographic reach of their operations," Center said.
