Nokia Confirmed to Stop Developing Symbian Mobile Phone

In its Q4 financial report, Nokia confirmed that last year released 808 PureView was its last phone product based on Symbian operation system, which means Saipan officially declared dead.

Nokia said in the finance report: "In 2012, we were in the process of transition to Windows Phone and we continued  sell Symbian devices. The Nokia 808 PureView launched in the middle of last year was our last Symbian device.

In the fourth quarter of 2012, Nokia sold 2.2 million Symbian phones, equivalent to half of the Lumia Windows Phone handsets. Before the advent of the Apple iPhone and Android, Symbian was the world's largest smart phone platform.

The report showed that Symbian phone revenue has been in sharp decline, and Nokia is gradually reducing the cost and effort spent on the platform. The decline of Nokia Symbian phone was due to 69% year-on-year sales drop in China. Nokia said: "The decrease in net sales in China was mainly because of the smart phone business sector, in which Symbian phones net sales declined most."
