Auto parts firm Brose North America will begin manufacturing full electric oil pump (eOP) at El Marqués, Mexico, in 2018 to cater to the demand for a ‘stop-start’ system that saves fuel without undermining driveability.
Aiming to produce more than five million eOPs in the next five years once the unit is in place, the company is all set for its expansion in the North American powertrain market.
The company's El Marqués plant, bestowed with a "multi-line" process, demonstrates a flexibility offering multiple solutions to different customers on the same line.
DTA North America customer team director Richard Illingworth said: "When combined with the eOP, the stop-start system shuts down the internal combustion engine when stopped in traffic, saving fuel while maintaining transmission oil pressure. The eOP delivers a significant improvement in driveability compared to mechanical methods of maintaining oil pressure."
The stop-start solutions for engine are expected to raise fuel economy by 6%. This becomes relevant in the wake of tightened government and industry regulations that call for devices improving fuel efficiency and cutting CO2 emissions.
Brose North America can also devise programs suitable for both low-volume and high-volume vehicles, thanks to its 'Baukasten', a modular kit for electric drives and powertrain.
The eOP solution has been stated to bolster 'Baukasten' to ensure flexibility and fast-to-market development to respond to a rise in demand.
