Renowned Holden tuner Walkinshaw Performance has announced a new tuning package for the Ford Kuga, in what is the company’s first foray into aftermarket products for the Blue Oval.
A direct result of the continued growth in the compact SUV segment, the Walkinshaw Performance (WP) Ford Kuga, modified with the help of WP’s European business partner Irmscher, has been developed to match the quality of OEM standards.
Limited to 80 units, the WP by Irmscher Ford Kuga package keeps the standard car’s turbocharged 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine but sees the addition of a WP dynamic throttle response module, an Irmscher suspension kit that lowers the car’s ride height by 40mm, Irmscher rolled and polished sidesteps, and black 20-inch Irmscher wheels wrapped with Toyo tyres.
WP says the result of the package is a Ford Kuga with dramatically improved ride and handling, along with sharper throttle response.
The company says that while the move to offer tuning products for a Ford may surprise some, the Ford Kuga stood out with its five-cylinder turbo engine, European styling and driving dynamics.
Walkinshaw Performance general manager Tony Harris said the decision makes perfect sense.
“We believe the discerning Kuga buyer is looking for something a little different and individual.
“The Irmscher products we’re offering are not only visually appealing, they are also very high quality and we will back it with a balance-of-new-car warranty.”
The limited edition Irmscher Ford Kuga package is available now from Walkinshaw Performance and selected Ford dealers, with an attached recommended retail price of $5750.
Seen at the Sydney motor show in October last year, the all-new mid-size Ford Kuga SUV is due to launch locally in the first quarter of 2013.
