Japanese automaker Nissan Motor is set to introduce its remodeled Datsun brand in Russia in April 2014, in a move to attract the first-time buyers.
The car manufacturer, which terminated the Datsun brand in 1981, plans to relaunch the small car model in other markets such as Indonesia, India and South Africa.
Datsun Russia director Jerome Saigot was quoted by Reuters as saying that there is no serious alternative to the used car market in Russia and they hope to provide an option of low-cost new cars to buyers.
It is estimated that by the end of this year, about six million used cars will have been sold in Russia.
"It is a big piece of the market where we don't have any offer in the Nissan line-up," Saigot added. "The risk here is to do nothing."
The company will produce the Datsun model at its Russian partner Avtovaz's Togliatti plant.
