Japanese automaker Toyota Motor is recalling 119,140 Avalon vehicles of certain model year 2003-2004 in the US, due to a problem with the supplemental restraint system (SRS) circuits.
The SRS circuits in these vehicles are prone to internal shorting, which may create an abnormal current flow and more heat. This leads to the damage of the circuits.
In addition, it might result in the inadvertent deployment of the front air bags and/or seat belt pretensioners, which will increase the risk of an injury or crash.
All the recall affected vehicles were manufactured from 5 June 2002, through 20 December 2004.
Dealers of the carmaker will install a noise filter between the air bag control module and the wire harness, free of charge. Toyota will notify the owners of the recall affected vehicles.
