Cargill India is set to commence production at its INR5bn ($78.8m) maize milling unit in Karnataka in June 2015.
The plant, which is said to be the company's first maize unit in India, will be capable of processing around 800 tonnes of maize every day which will be sourced mostly from Harihar in Davanagere district and neighbouring places, reports fnbnews.com.
It will allow the company to expand its business-to-business and consumer foods portfolio in the country, according to Livemint.
Cargill Foods Starch and Sweeteners division managing director Jan Bosman said: "Work on the plant had begun.
"It would hire about 350 engineers and skilled workers, and supply modified starch extracted from maize to India-based food and pharmaceutical industries for their bakery, confectionery, snacks, beverage, pharmaceutical and personal care products."
Additionally, Cargill India operates three edible oil refineries in the states of Odisha, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.
