Automaker Daimler has equipped Ubisense smart factory system solution at the Mercedes S-Class assembly lines in the Sindelfingen facility in Germany.
The new system recognizes tool or vehicles on the production line without scanning vehicle ID numbers and uses vehicle related tool program, while tracking the location of every vehicle to supply the external worker assistance systems.
The company expects to reduce the assembly time with the new system, while reducing errors happening during manual operations.
Ubisense CEO Richard Green said: "We look forward to supporting our customers in achieving their ambitious manufacturing goals over the years to come."
The order was divided into two phases, the pilot phase has 2 line segments and the related DC tools to combine and test the solution, while the system will be fixed at the stations with integration of the DC tools.
Ubisense collaborated with the Atlas Copco in 2009, under which its system is combined with the Mercedes' PLUS manufacturing execution system and the DC tools through the Atlas Copco Open Protocol, which will control devices and tools of other vendors.
