Bimbo Bakeries USA is planning to close its facility in Easton, Pennsylvania, as part of its plan to shift the production to a new facility in the neighbouring county. The closure is expected to lead to a loss of 78 jobs.

The phase out at the facility will begin later this year.

The company has asked workers at the Northampton Street bakery to apply for the 150 open positions at 240,000 square foot, $75m new plant in Upper Macungie Township in Lehigh County. The new facility, which will employ 150 workers, is expected to open next year.

Manufacturing vice president Rod Cunha said that the move a difficult decision to make.

"However, the age of this facility and its landlocked nature makes it incapable of competing effectively in the marketplace," he added.
