German carmaker BMW has announced that its new laser light technology will be incorporated into its plug-in hybrid sports car, BMW i8, beginning autumn 2014.
The luxury carmaker has equipped its BMW i8 with the new laser light concept, which increases energy efficiency by a further 30% compared to its power-saving LED light.
However, the basic version of the BMW i8 is equipped with full LED headlamps, the optional laser light feature will offer a high beam range of up to 600m.
According to the company, the laser light concept will lower power requirement and can save installation space and weight inside the headlamp.
BMW i8 will be the first production vehicle to feature this new technology. BMW will also introduce its further BMW models with the laser light system.
