Continental has introduced a trailer detection and control system called, Trailer Reverse Assist, which is designed to make parking of vehicles with trailers easier.
This system uses an Intelligent Rear Camera Module, which facilitates enhanced viewing and trailer detection.
The company highlighted that with the technology drivers can remotely execute backing and parking operations using tablet/smart devices, the trailer can also be steered with a control knob.
Continental highlighted that drivers will have option use a smart Android or iOS device to control low-speed steering, shifting, braking and acceleration during remote operation.
The intelligent Rear Camera Module has been integrated with the vehicle's 360-degree Surround View system, which detects a trailer, measures its articulation angle and displays the projected path to the driver.
According to the company, the technology has been made to reduce the stress of backing trailers into tight spots.
Continental North America Systems & Technology head Steffen Linkenbach said: "Backing up or parking a vehicle with a trailer is stressful and difficult, even for the most advanced drivers.
"By exploring new approaches, we are making it easier, more efficient and safer. The optional wireless remote control system allows a driver to maneuver the vehicle and trailer while standing next to it.
"It gives the driver added visibility that is usually only seen by someone providing guidance outside the vehicle."
