New Flyer Industries, the manufacturer of heavy-duty transit buses, has won a contract from San Diego Metropolitan Transit System to deliver about 165 Xcelsior busses in the US.
The contract is to deliver the heavy-duty Xcelsior buses fuelled by compressed natural gas (CNG) in the fourth quarter of 2013, including 47 units of 60ft articulated buses and 118 units of 60ft buses.
New Flyer President, CEO Paul Soubry said: "We have built a lasting partnership over the last twenty years with New Flyer having manufactured approximately 90% of their fleet of over 500 heavy-duty transit buses."
The buses are expected to be produced at the company's St. Cloud, Minnesota manufacturing plant in the US, while the 47 CNG buses will start production by the second quarter of 2013.
The buses feature 20-year certified tanks and fire suppression system and are devised for 350-400mile range.
