UK-based Premier Foods will invest £20m to set up a new production and packing line at its cake manufacturing site in Fish Dam Lane in Carlton, Barnsley, in order to meet growing demand for its Mr. Kipling Snack Pack slices range.
Doubling the company's current capacity, the new line will be designed to produce 300 million cake slices a year.
The project will last for 12 months and comprises the installation of a mixing station, oven and sophisticated packing robotics adding significant volume to the site.
Carlton factory general manager Jason Ramsay said, "This investment is a strong vote of confidence by Premier Foods in the Carlton site and the Carlton workforce.
"We have been manufacturing Mr. Kipling cake at Carlton since 1975 and this latest news is a huge boost for all of us."
Launched in 2011, Mr. Kipling Snack Packs is available in six different flavors to provide a convenient, on-the-go format suitable for lunchboxes and in-home eating occasions that have since proved a runaway success, the company claims.
Headquartered in St Albans, Hertfordshire, Premier Foods is engaged in food manufacturing, processing and distribution. It operates in three segments grocery, bread and disposed of canning operations.
