Sonoco Alloyd, an arm of global packaging leader Sonoco, will integrate robots manufactured by Rethink Robotics into its sealing machines system to offer complete automation to its customers.
US-based medical and retail package design firm Sonoco Alloyd will market the sealing systems that will integrate Rethink's Baxter and Sawyer robots.
Sonoco Alloyd general manager Jeff Christensen said: "At Sonoco Alloyd, we believe that leveraging the industry's most advanced collaborative robot technologies, along with our own world-class sealing systems, can provide a unique and complete solution for customers that will deliver real results in a short timeframe."
The packaging firm itself has been using Rethink Robotics in its factories for some time.
Rethink Robotics president and CEO Scott Eckert said: "Sonoco Alloyd understands that collaborative robots are a big part of the future of manufacturing, this alliance allows Sonoco Alloyd to offer additional value to the reliable automation it's already providing to customers."
Rethink Robotics' Baxter robot is a workforce multiplier that optimizes labor. Driven by Intera software system, it is said to incorporate an advanced software platform for automotive, plastics, consumer goods, electronics and more.
Introduced in March, Sawyer is a single-arm robot designed to execute machine tending, circuit board testing and other precise tasks.
Recently, Crescent Industries has employed Baxter for loading and unloading of the injection molding press.
