Dormeo Octaspring Is Adding a Manufacturing Operation to Its Facility

Specialty bedding producer Dormeo Octaspring is adding a manufacturing operation to its facility here, the company announced.

Dormeo said it has invested more than $500,000 to retrofit its 30,000-square-foot facility with new manufacturing equipment. The building had been used as a distribution center.

Company officials said the move, in addition to helping them fulfill orders more quickly, reaffirms its commitment to the North American market.

The company also has named bedding veteran Michael Carter as director of manufacturing. Carter began his career in 1998 at Kingsdown, where he rose through the manufacturing and operating ranks over the past 15 years and most recently was director of quality systems.

"Michael is well respected in the industry for the innovative processes he brought to plants around the country that he has overseen, as well as his commitment to quality, which is a paramount value to us," said Chris Henning, president of Dormeo Octaspring.

The company's Octaspring line features support coils made of memory foam.

"Demand for our product is so strong because it is truly one of a kind. After our successful showing at the winter Las Vegas Market, we knew that we needed to shift from importing product to manufacturing domestically to keep up with orders from our retail partners here in the States and Canada. By expanding our capabilities at our Dallas-area location, we continue to be true to our promise to not only support our customers through our advertising campaigns, but to provide effective and efficient logistical support as well," Henning said.

He said Dormeo Octaspring customers will benefit from faster turnaround times on orders and deliveries. The addition of a research and development operation will serve as an added benefit for retailers requesting refinements to product lines, officials said.

John Stowe, chief operating officer, North America, said the move "will help us to better serve our customers by cutting down on shipping costs, making us more competitive when it comes to delivery times. Instead of using our overseas operations or even going to a domestic third party, we wanted to be able to make any product enhancements or customizations right in our own facility."

Dormeo Octaspring, which entered the U.S. market last year, is part of Studio Moderna Group, a European multi-channel direct marketing company.
