Imagination Technologies Has Announced That It Is Among The First to Submit Rogue Drivers

Imagination Technologies has announced that it is among the first to submit PowerVR Series6 ‘Rogue’ drivers for OpenGL ES 3.0 conformance with Khronos.

OpenGL ES is a royalty-free, cross-platform API for full-function 2D and 3D graphics on embedded systems - including consoles, phones, appliances and vehicles.

“With such advanced features as multiple rendering targets, instancing, and more, Khronos’ OpenGL ES 3.0 is a significant step forward for mobile and embedded graphics, bringing these platforms significantly closer to performance and feature set parity with traditionally more capable desktops and consoles," said Tony King-Smith, v-p marketing, Imagination.Imagination Targets Opengl Es 3.0 Conformance with Khronos_1

Portable binding

OpenGL ES includes profiles for floating-point and fixed-point systems and the EGL specification for portably binding to native windowing systems.

OpenGL ES 1.X is for fixed function hardware and offers acceleration, image quality and performance. OpenGL ES 2.X enables full programmable 3D graphics. OpenGL SC is tuned for the safety critical market.

"We are excited by this next phase of GPU which will blur the boundaries between embedded and traditional high end graphics platforms,” said King-Smith.

Khronos

The conformance submission is on Imagination’s Rogue Test Chip on Linux 3.2.0. and is based on a published Khronos Specification, and is expected to pass the Khronos Conformance Testing Process.

PowerVR Series6 is already shipping in end user product.
